The latest edition of the “Performance Ranking of Scientific Papers for World Universities”, better known as the NTU Ranking, is now available, in which the University of Lisbon (ULisboa) consolidates its excellent position registered in recent years. In the overall ranking, the University is among the top 200, ranking 181st in the world and 63rd in Europe. In the field of Engineering, ULisboa is even among the top 145 in the world.
Among the 25 disciplines in which it was ranked, ULisboa leads 15 nationally and is in the “Top 150” in 14 and in the “Top 200” in 19. Among the disciplines in which the university performs best, several fall within the areas of expertise of Técnico, such as: Civil Engineering (31st position), Mechanical Engineering (66th), Chemical Engineering (79th), and Environmental Science and Engineering (93rd).
If we continue to analyze by discipline, particularly those in which Técnico operates, ULisboa continues to hold a prominent position in: Mathematics (106th in the world), Space Sciences (123rd), Electrical Engineering (126th), and Physics (133rd).
In addition to the field of Engineering, the institution remained among the top 200 in three of the six knowledge domains (By Field) evaluated: Agriculture (70th place in the world), Natural Sciences (117th) and Social Sciences (194th).
The University of Lisbon (ULisboa) is once again the highest-ranked Portuguese higher education institution. Second place nationally is held by the University of Porto, followed by the Polytechnic Institute of Porto and the University of Coimbra, respectively.
The 2021 edition of the NTU Ranking is led by Harvard University, followed by Stanford University and the University of Toronto.
Published since 2007 by the National Taiwan University, and therefore also known as the Taiwan ranking, this year it compared 1,417 institutions and published the ranking of the top 800.
The ranking also lists the top 500 universities in 6 major areas encompassing 27 disciplines. The evaluation is based on the ranking of scientific output over the last 11 years (2010-2020), using 8 indicators. These indicators are grouped into three important evaluation criteria: productivity (representing up to 25% of the score), impact (35%), and research excellence (40%).
